Opening Statement
Too many people have believed that the surge in higher energy costs was temporary and that gasoline and diesel prices would soon subside. Many businesses and suppliers were willing to absorb some of the losses associated with higher costs on the notion that such conditions would only be temporary and that by so doing they could retain their market share. However, the realization that these higher prices are no longer temporary but are becoming even higher is leading many of these same entities to reconsider their marketing policies and product pricing.
In so doing, they are coming to realize that in order to retain profitability they have no choice but to begin passing on these higher costs (Did you see that American Airlines is considering charging air travelers for check-in bags now - additionally - how long do you think trucking firms and carriers such as UPS are going to be able to restrain from raising their fares). As they do, more and more of the public is going to become extremely cognizant of the fact that EVERYTHING is going up in price.
- In the last three years, Wheat has almost quintupled, to as high as $13.49 per bushel.
- Corn has jumped more than 238% to a high of $6.48 per bushel.
- Soybeans have tripled in price, soaring from $4.98 to $15.86 per bushel - a record high.

Why are you suggesting that we take our assets out of Credit Unions?
I have suggested and I have followed the advice myself to diminish the borders between my assets and the institutions that hold them. There are some Credit Unions that may have a large portion of their investment portfolios in derivative-based loans. If so, they will eventually (soon) have to account for those and that could mean the bankruptcy of that financial institution. Many small banks and financial institutions have and will have to declare bankruptcy over the next 12 18 months for this reason and because of sub-prime loans that are being defaulted on.
A small bank in Arkansas was recently shut down for "unsafe and unsound practices." More banks are probably going to meet the same fate. Bear Stearns may have been too big to fail, but ANB Financial, a small bank in Arkansas, wasn't - And we will see even more bank shutdowns.
I use a checking account at a local Credit Union to pay my bills. Additionally, I have a savings account to pay for any overages in the checking account.
All additional cash (beyond the checking and savings account) is converted into silver, gold, foreign currencies, and stocks in two gold mine companies. I am buying Canadian Dollars and Euros and I have invested in an ETF that invests in Japanese Yen.
The dollar is going to continue to fall against all major currencies.

We found ants in the kitchen this am and were puzzled why they were there, has only happened on a couple of occasions...I chanced on a copy of "Change, the Days to Come" at the library today, opened randomly to Ram's conversation about ants & how he would send as runners to learn from...
The ants represent the MIND-SET of survival. They have survived every cataclysmic event from time immemorial. If you observe them you will see that they are very industrious and will work all summer to eat off of their food storage in the winter and can survive for much longer periods if necessary.

It is a great question - and there may be some benefits to it - HOWEVER, it is a way for the special interest groups and global leaders in power to suspend the US Constitution. That would mean that US citizens would no longer have any rights such as FREEDOM OF SPEECH, THE RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS, and many other freedoms that protect its citizens from governmental control. They would have the right to restrict travel; place higher taxes on its citizens - even the US INCOME TAX which is illegal - could be changed and made legal.

Thanks for the update on the Olive oil at cash and carry. I have been putting away water in gallon plastic bottles... a few every week. Do you have any other recommendations for storage other than plastic? My storage bin was pretty hot these last couple of days. I say water in plastic is better than no water but I am interested in other options. Our well is quite deep and I am not sure how to access it when the power is out.

I would suggest that you filter all of the water in plastic bottles before you drink it. Berkey and Katydyne are the best water filters they take out almost everything!! You should also invest in a hand pump for your well If your funds are temporarily limited, you can purchase metal containers designed to be lowered into your well. These containers hold between 1 - 2 quarts of water.

State of the Economy
Here is one reason WHY I think silver is an excellent investment opportunity:
Silver has been consumed by industry since the age of electronics began at the end of World War II. The consumption of silver increased in the industrial world. This increase has consumed about 95% of all the silver ever mined in the history of mankind, which is about 45 billion ounces of silver.
Silver has been available for industrial consumption for the past 63 years for one reason - the removal of silver from the world's monetary system, which was a trend that started over 100 years ago in the late 1880's in Germany. This trend is now ending, as the bull market in gold and silver has resumed, and which started in 2001.

In the US, Gold confiscation laws are still on the books but there are currently no silver confiscation laws.
Gold's strong fundamentals are only exceeded by Silver's so when the gold manipulation stops and the Gold price takes off investors will be looking for the next under-priced investment with similar characteristics.
Silver mineral deposits, as opposed to Gold, are usually very shallow in the earth's crust due to the nature of the geology so most of the large deposits of Silver have probably already been found and/or already mined limiting future discoveries.
Retail physical shortages of Silver are already beginning to appear around the world.
Hedge funds are bleeding from the credit crunch and they are looking for ways to save themselves. A single hedge fund can scoop up the remaining physical Silver and blow the price sky high.
In March 2008 the Gold price breached $1,000 or 120% of its historical high. Silver, on the other hand, only approached $21 or 40% of it's historical high suggesting that Silver has a long way still to go.

URGENT action is needed to save bumblebees in Scotland from rapid rates of decline or some species could be wiped out, environmental experts have warned.
Without bumblebees many foods, such as Scotland's renowned raspberry crops, would not exist, as they would not be pollinated.
But the vital creatures are under threat because of a lack of flowers in the countryside, particularly as a result of intensive farming.
The Bumblebee Conservation Trust has already warned that out of 25 native species of bumblebee across the UK, three have already become nationally extinct and five more are under threat, including the great yellow bumblebee, and large garden bumblebee.
TRIANGLE OF LIFE - My name is Doug Copp. I am the Rescue Chief and Disaster Manager of the American Rescue Team International (ARTI), the world's most experienced rescue team. The information in this article will save lives in an earthquake.
I have crawled inside 875 collapsed buildings, worked with rescue teams from 60 countries, founded rescue teams in several countries, and I am a member of many rescue teams from many countries. I was the United Nations expert in Disaster Mitigation for two years. I have worked at every major disaster in the world since 1985, except for simultaneous disasters.
The Turkish Federal Government, City of Istanbul, University of Istanbul Case Productions and ARTI cooperated to film this practical, scientific test. We collapsed a school and a home with 20 mannequins inside. Ten mannequins did "duck and cover," and ten mannequins I used in my "triangle of life" survival method. After the simulated earthquake collapse we crawled through the rubble and entered the building to film and document the results. The film, in which I practiced my survival techniques under directly observable, scientific conditions, relevant to building collapse, showed there would have been zero percent survival for those doing duck and cover. There would likely have been 100 percent survivability for people using my method of the "triangle of life." This film has been seen by millions of viewers on television in Turkey and the rest of Europe, and it was seen in the US, Canada and Latin America on the TV program Real TV.
The first building I ever crawled inside of was a school in Mexico City during the 1985 earthquake. Every child was under their desk. Every child was crushed to the thickness of their bones. They could have survived by lying down next to their desks in the aisles. It was obscene, unnecessary and I wondered why the children were not in the aisles. I didn't at the time know that the children were told to hide under something.
Simply stated, when buildings collapse, the weight of the ceilings falling upon the objects or furniture inside crushes these objects, leaving a space or void next to them. This space is what I call the "triangle of life". The larger the object, the stronger, and the less it will compact.
The less the object compacts; the larger the void. This means the greater the probability that the person who is using this void for safety will not be injured. The next time you watch collapsed buildings on television, count the "triangles" you see formed. They are everywhere. It is the most common shape, you will see, in a collapsed building. They are everywhere.
TEN TIPS FOR EARTHQUAKE SAFETY
1) Most everyone who simply "ducks and covers" when buildings collapse are crushed to death. People who get under objects, like desks or cars, are crushed.
2) Cats, dogs and babies often naturally curl up in the fetal position. You should too in an earthquake. It is a natural safety/survival instinct. You can survive in a smaller void. Get next to an object, next to a sofa, next to a large bulky object that will compress slightly but leave a void next to it.
3) Wooden buildings are the safest type of construction to be in during an earthquake. Wood is flexible and moves with the force of the earthquake. If the wooden building does collapse, large survival voids are created. Also, the wooden building has less concentrated, crushing weight. Brick buildings will break into individual bricks. Bricks will cause many injuries but less squashed bodies than concrete slabs.
4) If you are in bed during the night and an earthquake occurs, simply roll off the bed. A safe void will exist around the bed. Hotels can achieve a much greater survival rate in earthquakes, simply by posting a sign on the back of the door of every room telling occupants to lie down on the floor, next to the bottom of the bed during an earthquake.
5) If an earthquake happens and you cannot easily escape by getting out the door or window, then lie down and curl up in the fetal position next to a sofa, or large chair.
6) Most everyone who gets under a doorway when buildings collapse is killed. How? If you stand under a doorway and the doorjamb falls forward or backward you will be crushed by the ceiling above. If the door jam falls sideways you will be cut in half by the
doorway. In either case, you will be killed!
7) Never go to the stairs. The stairs have a different "moment of frequency" (they swing separately from the main part of the building). The stairs and remainder of the building continuously bump into each other until structural failure of the stairs takes place. The people who get on stairs before they fail are chopped up by the stair treads - horribly mutilated. Even if the building doesn't collapse, stay away from the stairs. The stairs are a likely part of the building to be damaged. Even if the stairs are not collapsed by the earthquake, they may collapse later when overloaded by fleeing people. They should always be checked for safety, even when the rest of the building is not damaged.
8) Get Near the Outer Walls Of Buildings, Or Outside Of Them, If Possible - It is much better to be near the outside of the building rather than the interior. The farther inside you are from the outside perimeter of the building the greater the probability that your escape route will be blocked
9) People inside of their vehicles are crushed when the road above falls in an earthquake and crushes their vehicles; which is exactly what happened with the slabs between the decks of the Nimitz Freeway. The victims of the San Francisco earthquake all stayed inside of their vehicles. They were all killed. They could have easily survived by getting out and sitting or lying next to their vehicles. Everyone killed would have survived if they had been able to get out of their cars and sit or lie next to them. All the crushed cars had voids 3 feet high next to them, except for the cars that had columns fall directly across them.
10) I discovered, while crawling inside of collapsed newspaper offices and other offices with a lot of paper that paper does not compact. Large voids are found surrounding stacks of paper.

MONSANTO IS KILLING THE SOIL
Monsanto is the world's leading producer of GENETICALLY ENGINEERED seeds - about 70 percent of all GENETICALLY ENGINEERED crops grown worldwide derive from Monsanto technology. For example, soy ingredients like lecithin, soy oil, and soy protein are found in 60 to 70 percent of all processed foods.

350 could become a really important number
Recently, chief climatologist, James Hansen, submitted a paper to Science magazine with several coauthors. The abstract attached to it argued -- and I have never read stronger language in a scientific paper -- that "if humanity wishes to preserve a planet similar to that on which civilization developed and to which life on Earth is adapted, paleoclimate evidence and ongoing climate change suggest that CO2 will need to be reduced from its current 385 ppm to at most 350 ppm."

I have been following the freeze dried food industry since I went to RSE and my first awareness of "The Times are Here". Every major web-site is depleted. (There are a few folks out there that are taking action on what they either feel or know.)
www.beprepared.com is the main distributor of Mountain house freeze dried food. They are taxed and depleted. I do not know if things will improve in the near future for those canneries that supply for Mountain House are strained. At present there are a few sites that have stock piled Mountain House and are selling or filling their orders.
I want you to know this is serious stuff. Mountain House is a premier freeze dried manufacturer and for them to cease to manufacture #10 cans IS A BIG DEAL! 1st. I believe supply and demand is a factor for the strain... or our food sources are drying up. I do not believe that is happening...YET! What I do believe is that the supply to MAJOR manufactures is getting the immediate food source, (politics) DOLE, HEINTZ and name brands... Sources that get the public to buy at the grocery stores.
